Films Part 3

Last month I did a two part blog on films I enjoy and I'm continuing it today. In case you've forgotten the series is of films I think you really need to see.

Comedy / Drama

> Wall.E

I really enjoyed this film. It is sort of a rip off of the consumer's disregard for the environment. I really enjoyed it a lot. It's a 'cute' film though, so you have to either watch it with your girlfriend, or be mostly asleep at the time [guess which one I chose...]

Action / Drama

> Batman: The Dark Knight
This really is a wonderful film. A friend of mine didn't like it because it was about the Joker more than it was about Batman. I personally didn't mind though, because if you read the comics they are actually more about the characters than the story, and we've established who Batman is, so now we need to meet the villans. Also, the action was wonderful.

> The Bourne Supremacy
Wow. That's all I have to say. I loved all of these films, and recently I watched the third one again, and it reminded me that I love these films. The cinematography is amazing, and the character development is great too. The dialog is fantastic, and all in all I loved it. I wish that it were closer to the books though, because in the books there is more detail in terms of the plot. Having said that, it is a film and not a book, so no worries.

> Iron Man
Actually, don't watch this film. It's very overrated. Not worth the time. The special effects are good, but there aren't really much of them. The characters are extremely thin, and the action is too slow. The biggest problem with this film was that the back story took over an hour, so the rest of the film was rushed.

> Shooter
A surprisingly good action film. I really enjoyed the 'A-Team' style planning in it, and the fact that the plot was a little complex without losing the average person was good. The action is fairly good, but the fact that he's a sniper makes things interesting. My only complaint is that the final scene is a little fast, but good nonetheless. Worth watching.

John Q
> Denzel Washington is a great actor, and this is a great film. A match made in Hollywood. It's about a man who's son is sick and insurance won't pay for the surgery he needs, so he takes the hospital hostage until his son is put on the donor list. A great film about a father's love and desperation, and a bit of a stab at health insurance companies. Worth seeing.

> American Gangster
This is a great film about drug trafficing and the like, and has great action, dialog, acting, cinematography as well as just being a wonderful story. Go see it, it's great.

> The Departed
I really enjoyed this film, so much so that I saw it three times in cinema. It's got a wonderful story line, brilliant actors, and amazing directing. It's really dirty and raw, but at the same time it's desperate and has this sort of refined air to it. You need to see it to understand it. Double agents in both camps on a race to kill each other. Go on, have a good time...

Thought Provoking

> Taken
A story about an ex CIA agent who's daughter is kidnapped and sold into prostitution. It's a great film which gives you a brief look at the human trafficing industry. If you want something that'll make you think about things a bit, and you can see a whole lot of people being killed, this is a great film for you.

> Lord of War
One of the best films I've ever seen. As above, a little action with some great questions, in this case about arms trafficing, worth seeing. Nicholas Cage and Jared Leto are in it, and they both do a great job. The opening credits show how a bullet is made, and ends up in a child's head. Very interesting.

The Kingdom
> Jamie Foxx and a whole host of others illustrate the relationship between America and the Middle East. Very accurate and worth seeing. It also has a great opening sequence showing how relations have progressed over the last half a century or so between the Middle East and America in relation to oil trade. Great summary.
